His latest book, Finance Without Fear: A Guide to Creating and Managing a Profitable Business, is an easy-to-understand roadmap that dispels any fears about finances and cash flow. It explains the key concepts of finance, what the numbers mean and how finance can be used to create a business with a competitive advantage.

Hettinger recommended Finance Without Fear for anyone starting or managing a business. “Finance does not need to be mysterious and intimating,” he says. “Basic business finance is not hard to understand, and the business owner or manager who masters it has a leg up on the competition.”

Hettinger’s clients include entrepreneurs, small businesses, Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, and community organizations. He draws on extensive experience in real estate and finance for several large institutional investors and for a Big-6 consulting firm.

He holds a Ph.D. in International Development from the University of Southern Mississippi, where his research focused on housing and tourism, an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo. He also is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma.

He also wrote an acclaimed book on workforce housing solutions - Living and Working in Paradise: Why Housing is Too Expensive and What Communities Can Do About It. The book analyzes the causes of housing market failure in resort communities and presents the process for developing a vision, strategy and plan to create a socially and economically healthy community
